Kublai's Gift on my Birthday

My Best Friend’s Birthday

Thirty three years in existence
Three centuries of growing-up
The girl came to be one of
The world’s craziest deity

Wrapped in a females body
Equipped with a laughing box
That vibrates for kilometers
And a modified voice that chants
With the spirits

She holds a sword
That spews love in her victims
And a shield
That could withstand
All the virus in the world combined

Endowed with the gift
To create an ordinary moment
Into something special
Into something spiritual
Into something surreal
But that spirals back to reality

How can I argue
With the stubborn princess of the wind
Whose wisdom dates back
To our ancestors’ ancestor

I can only love her back
Respect her philosophy
And all the tantrums that goes
Along with it

She has probably touched
A million lives
Men, women, children, animals, plants,
Ants, trees, flowers, ghosts, aliens
Including a freak like me

She see beauty in simple things
Anything flowing, sprouting, blooming
But she can easily be blown away
By a sunset or a moonrise

She cannot resist a waterfall
And she gets attracted to the open sea
I wanted to tail her trail
But she could be so
Strong and fast sometimes

So I remained on my side
Watching her move
She dances the gracious lust of life
She sings the rhythm of a distant universe
And she swallows the soul people
Only to exhale them in some of
The most beautiful poetry
I have ever read

She always accompanied storms,
Thunders and typhoons
No wonder there is this calming,
Enlightening effect
Everything she leaves

She is the wind personified
She finds her way
Through spaces and emptiness
In peoples hearts
Blows the candle to wish
Everyone love and luck

It is her birthday today
I’m lighting a candle
To thank her back
And to thank the God’s
For making me a part of her reason
For having her a part of my person

Birthday gift of Kublai, October 4, 2004
Butuan City (before the Mamanwa, Agusan Marsh experience)
